In 1969, a gala dinner was held to honor the Moon landing and the Apollo space program. Omega produced 26 commemorative Speedmaster models for the astronauts at this dinner, presenting them with a truly limited edition series.
This watch was made entirely of 18-karat gold. Armstrong was one of the recipients of this watch, and his watch was numbered 17. The caseback also featured an engraving identifying Armstrong. I can say that it pairs beautifully with the gold, along with its burgundy tachymeter bezel. The inscriptions on the caseback, "ASTRONAUT NEIL A. ARMSTRONG – GEMINI 8 APOLLO 11" and "To mark man's conquest of space with time, through time, on time," make the watch even more special.
